Annie McLean

I am a professional artist and tutor working in a variety of mediums. I am primarily self-taught, undertaking various courses of art development and learning throughout my adult life. Although originally born in North Lanarkshire, I moved away in the mid 1970s to marry and raise four daughters in Oxfordshire. In 2002 I moved to East Anglia and after a time established myself as an artist in Southwold (Suffolk) whilst continuing with the ‘day job’. I returned to Scotland in October 2014 when my late father became terminally ill. Now settled in Kirriemuir, Angus, I am building my practice working as a professional artist. In addition to painting and drawing in both a traditional and contemporary style, I offer group and individual tuition in painting, drawing and self-expression through art.

When I lived in East Anglia I was very much inspired by my surroundings of sand, sea and the big skies of Suffolk and Norfolk. Now that I have returned to live permanently in Scotland I am equally, if not more so, enthused and inspired by landscapes, particularly the more rugged and dramatic scenes of Angus, Perthshire and the Highland areas.

I have always found painting outdoors exciting and pleasurable but during these last few years of having a studio open to the public five days a week there has been little opportunity for me to develop my ‘en plein air’ work. Eighteen months ago I decided to close my studio and adopt a more flexible way of working. My art will continue to be available for viewing and/or purchase through various online channels, events, exhibitions and private pre-appointed viewings.

I am available for commissioned work. I am also available for group and individual tuition, group presentations and workshops either in your home or group venue. . Please contact me for further information.
